It is important to first mention that it is of utmost importance NOT TO OVERFILL a diesel crankcase with oil and Auto-Rx® additive when cleaning out soot or sludge deposits.
| Step 1 | Add Auto-Rx® to the host motor oil at a rate of 2 fluid ounces per quart of sump capacity, being prudent not to overfill the crankcase, by dipstick measurement. Add with a fresh fill of motor oil and a new filter installed. |
| Step 2 | Drive the vehicle as you normally would for a total of 3,000 miles. |
| Step 3 | Drain the Auto-Rx®-fortified oil and refill, and install a new filter. |
| Step 4 | Drive 3,000 miles on this oil change interval and repeat step 3. |
| Step 5 | Congratulations! You have completed the recommended procedure. Please read the following on host oil selection. |
For best cleaning potential with Auto-Rx®, conventional oil is recommended. For small turbo diesels, such as VW TDI motors, choices are quite limited. For example, there are no conventional 5w40 motor oils available. The closest conventional oil would be a 15W40 available from Mobil, Shell, or Chevron. The better solution would be to run Auto-Rx® with a Group III oil.
As one example, Castrol Syntec offers a 5W40, a Group III oil, that will work quite well. A Group III oil, in a nutshell, is a more highly refined conventional oil that has characteristics similar to a full synthetic oil. Most of the self-contamination impurities have been removed so as to produce an oil with potentially longer intervals between oil changes.
Secondly, the removal of impurities gives the Group III oils better pour points than a Group II oil. We recommend running the Group III oils in conjunction with Auto-Rx®, especially in the smaller turbo diesels....and especially in cold weather.
We recommend that you run a Group III oil in both cleaning and rinsing phases of an Auto-Rx® application. For smaller and heavy-duty diesel pickups, we recommend the conventional 15W40 diesel motor oils where these specs apply. Mobil Delvac, Shell Rotella T, and Chevron Delo are all conventional oils in the 15W40 grade.
Auto-Rx® has the greatest cleaning ability in a host oil where the polar esters in Auto-Rx® are the only or the dominant ester in the oil sump. We do not recommend Group IV (PAO-based) oils, as they have coupling esters in relatively high amounts that reduce the cleaning activity of Auto-Rx®.
