The test vehicle is a 1990 Chevrolet S-10, light duty pick-up truck. The truck is equipped with the original 4.3-liter, V-6 motor and manual 5-speed transmission. From 1996 through 1998 an oil additive was used with each oil change. The oil has been faithfully changed at each 3,000-mile interval. This previously used additive was comprised of chlorinated paraffin's, corrosion inhibitors, acid scavengers, antioxidants, and other extreme pressure enhancing chemistry. During this time, I believed that it was the best additive that I could use. I once believed that my motor was pristine clean and performing at its highest possible level at that time.
I began using Auto-RX in my truck motor just a couple months ago. I was approaching a scheduled oil change and added 8 fluid ounces of Auto-RX to the crankcase and drove 180 miles before changing out the oil. Quite frankly, I was surprised to see the amount of contaminants that were in the oil filter and how dirty the oil looked. There had obviously been a wealth of contamination building inside the motor over the years. I also noticed that the oil dipstick looked shiny and new after running the Auto-RX as compared to a slightly stained brown look before.
I added another dose of Auto-RX to the crankcase approximately 500 miles before my next oil change. Substantially more contamination had found its way to the filter, although less than from the original application of Auto-RX. New oil was added and the vehicle was submitted for its year 2000 vehicle inspection. I believe the results speak for themselves. I prided myself in the past for thinking that I had one of the cleanest burning vehicles of its type. Now I know that I do.
