Why Put Clean Oil In A Dirty Engine

Frank,

Wanted to drop a line and tell you thanks for helping me get our camp generator cleaned out and ready for the first load of Amsoil Synthetic, I was leery due to the fact that the machine is over 10 years old and is the lifeblood of our camp since we depend on its electric.  I started by following your instructions of adding 3 full bottles of Auto RX with Wal-Mart SuperTech 15w40 oil and a fresh Wix filter, I ran for 10 hours and changed (there were no visible issues but replaced anyway) and installed new Wix and ran for 250 more  hours, the results was darker oil but still very clean filter and no visible sludge from oil plug.

Started to re-fill with Amsoil 15w40 synthetic oil, over the course of the first run (325 hours) we added 2 qts of oil, while this may seem a little high you must understand this thing has over 9000+ hours on the clock and always used Dino oil. I pulled the filters during routine maintenance and replaced cartridge with fresh WIX (which I may say looked clean as the day I installed), grabbed a sample and sent to Blackstone..the results speak for themselves (see my Test Report).  I will continue to use the Auto RX on a semiannual basis and plan on starting a routine for both of my personal vehicles.

Thanks again for answering my nervous emails during the initial process,

Why put clean oil in a dirty motor.notice that the mangnesium take up is high, consequently on the UOA is lower than average. This was due to prior cleaning and rinsing, exposing
clean metal surfaces to fresh oil and add pack.

Moral of the story is that before changing to a top shelf oil product, a cleaning and rinse will allow you take advantage of a top shelf oil right out of the shoot.
